Plan ahead for August bank holiday
I hope you’re enjoying your Summer so far and have managed to get out and about with the family.
Something we can all look forward to is the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of this month. But are you prepared?
There are lots of things happening over the weekend, such as the Bolton Food and Drink Festival right here in the town centre.
It takes place over four days from Friday, August 23 to Monday, August 26 so there’s plenty to keep the family occupied.
Whether you’re enjoying the festival or having fun elsewhere over the weekend, it’s useful to know what to do if you need medical advice.
A&E departments are traditionally busy over Bank Holiday weekends, and we’d rather you were enjoying your activities than spending hours in a waiting room.
My first bit of advice would be to invest in a family first aid kit – you can pick one up for under £10 which includes plasters, antiseptic wipes, bandages and sticky tape. You can also add your own paracetemol and ibuprofen, antiseptic cream and insect bite cream or spray and you’ll have a decent first response to many minor injuries.
Did you know that many local pharmacies are open on Bank Holiday Monday, with some open until 11pm?
Pharmacists are medically trained to give advice on a range of ailments. Check out our website for opening times: www.boltonccg.nhs.uk
Your GP practice will be closed on BH Monday but there are a number of planned and unplanned appointments available on Saturday and Sunday.
There’s also an out-of-hours GP service in operation, overnight from 6.30pm to 8am if you need urgent medical assistance.
You can access these services by ringing your GP practice and you’ll be directed to the right place.
