Are you eligible for your Covid booster?

1/10/21

All sites across Bolton are now rolling out the booster programme.

Eligible patients across Bolton are being called in priority order for their third Covid-19 vaccination. This will be a minimum of six months after their second dose and will be offered to the following people:

  • Those living in care homes for older adults
  • All adults aged 50 years or over
  • Frontline health and social care workers
  • All those aged 16 to 49 years with underlying health conditions that put them at higher risk of severe Covid-19, and adult carers
  • Adult household contacts of immunosuppressed individuals

Dr Helen Wall, senior responsible officer for the vaccination programme in Bolton, said: “The majority of our sites will be operating an appointment only booster programme at this time apart from Horwich RMI and Hootons Pharmacy, which are accepting walk-ins if you are eligible. Current guidance is that all booster doses should be Pfizer as this offers enhanced protection against Covid variants.”

Anyone who is severely immunocompromised, including those on medications that suppress the immune system (including chemotherapy), should have the booster as soon as eight weeks after their 2nd dose. This is to ensure they have adequate response and protection.

Dr Wall added: “Children who are 12 to 15 who have underlying health conditions will be called to attend local vaccine sites and all healthy 12 to 15 year olds will be offered Covid vaccine in school by the school immunisation teams within the next three to four weeks. I appreciate this is a difficult decision for parents so more information can be found on the NHS Bolton Foundation Trust website."
