Are you ready for the bank holiday?

Published on Friday 18 August 2017

NHS Bolton Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is urging local people to be prepared in advance of the Summer Bank Holiday on Monday 28 August.

Dr Barry Silvert, Clinical Director for Commissioning at the CCG, said: “A bank holiday can be a welcome break for us all and we all want to make the most of it.  Make sure you’re well prepared and know where to go if a member of the family is injured or unwell.  Lots of health problems can be easily dealt with at home, or there is your local pharmacy for over the counter medicines and advice.  Please remember that our A&E department is for serious or life threatening conditions only.  If you go along with something more minor, you may be advised to use another NHS service.”

Bolton’s pharmacists offer expert health advice without an appointment and can recommend over the counter medicines for common illnesses such as diarrhoea, headaches, coughs and colds, and bites and stings.  A number of Bolton pharmacies will be open over the bank holiday.

Local residents who take regular medicines on prescription are advised to check that they have sufficient supply at home and allow enough time for a repeat prescription if needed.

Bolton people can also pick up a copy, or download, Think Summer – a new publication with tips, and advice to help families stay healthy and well over the summer.  This new guide has information on getting active, barbecuing safely, staying safe in the sun, and how to deal with common summer ailments and injuries.  For more information on Think Summer, or to download a copy, visit: www.boltonccg.nhs.uk/news-events/local-news/think-summer.
