Bolton prepares to ramp up its booster programme

3/12/21

People are asked to be patient as the borough’s walk-in vaccination clinics prepare to offer booster jabs to more people.

In the meantime, those who are already eligible are urged to get vaccinated.

The Government announced this week that booster jabs are to be offered to all over-18s, with the period between second and booster doses reduced from six to three months.

Additionally, all 12-15s are to be offered a second dose of the vaccine. Currently, this is only available to certain young people.

This is in response to the emergence of the new Omicron variant of Covid in the UK.

Like other places across the country, Bolton’s vaccination sites are working hard to ensure that they can deal with this extra capacity. We’ll let people know when they are ready.

Until then, people are asked not to attend a walk-in vaccination clinic unless they are already eligible: These include:

  • first dose, those aged 12 and over
  • second dose, those aged 16/17 if it has been 12 weeks since their first
  • second dose, those aged 18 and over if it has been 8 weeks since their first
  • third dose, those aged 12 and over who are eligible and have an NHS invitation
  • booster, those aged 40 and over, health and social care workers, and some aged 16 or over if eligible. Booster should be at least 6 months after second dose

Bolton’s regular walk-in sites are offering a choice of days and times – including late-night opening.

In addition to the regular walk-in sites, the vaccination bus will (weather permitting) be at:

  • Asda Burnden Park from 10am-4pm tomorrow (Saturday, December 4)
  • University of Bolton, 10am-3pm, Wednesday, December 8.
  • Bolton Market, 10am-4pm, Saturday, December 11.

There is also an additional walk-in clinic at Tonge Moor Health Centre from 9.30am-1pm and 2pm-3pm on Thursday, December 9.

Dr Helen Wall, senior responsible officer for the vaccination programme in Bolton, said: “It is good news that booster jabs are to be offered to even more people to top up their immunity, and we’re working hard to get things ready.

“As soon as we’re ready, we’ll let you know so please don’t attend a walk-in clinic for your booster unless you are already eligible. Also, please don’t contact your GP practice about vaccinations as phone lines need to be kept free for other health issues.

“If you are in one of the current eligible groups, then please get your vaccination. It’s never too late to get even your second dose. If you have any questions about the vaccine, please go along to one of our clinics and have a chat with staff.”
