Supporting local social enterprises

Grants of up to £25,000 are available from Bolton’s Fund to support social enterprises.

Groups have until December 11 to apply for the money which will help social enterprises in their early stages to develop and support established enterprises to improve their impact.

Bolton’s Fund is a voluntary sector grants programme delivered by Bolton Council, NHS Bolton Clinical Commissioning Group, Bolton at Home and Bolton Community and Voluntary Services (CVS).

Its latest round of funding will support organisations which are trading for social purpose or managing community assets, or aim to do so.

Councillor Nadim Muslim, Bolton Council’s executive cabinet member for stronger communities, said: “Social enterprises perform such a vital role in the community, delivering valuable services and using any profits to support a wide variety of good causes.

“The sector has grown significantly in recent years and contributes to the local economy while also creating jobs and helping employees learn new skills.

"This latest funding round will help support our social enterprises and I am sure it will be welcomed at what has been a challenging time for the sector.’

Social Enterprise UK describes social enterprise as an approach taken by an organisation which has a clear social and/or environmental mission (set out in governing documents), which generates the majority of its income through trading and reinvests the majority of its profits to further the social mission.

Helen Tomlinson, Bolton CVS’s interim chief executive, said: “We are delighted to be releasing the next round of Bolton’s Fund which is all about growing and developing social enterprise in Bolton.

“Social enterprises play an important role in community wealth building and supporting local employment and training opportunities. If your group has a project that can help achieve these priorities or maybe you’re a social enterprise that wants to further develop your enterprise skills, we’d love to hear from you!”
