Bolton Vision event’s love letter to the borough

Delegates at a conference aimed at instilling civic pride and shaping the future of the borough used a real love letter to shout about why they love Bolton.

They were the first to express what they adore about Bolton by writing their thoughts on a giant letter ‘B’ displayed at the 21st Vision 2030 event on Friday (June 21).

Around 170 people representing local businesses, the voluntary sector, investors and many partner organisations attended the annual conference in Bolton Albert Halls, and were invited to write their thoughts on the B as part of the ‘I love Bolton because...’ campaign.

The theme this year was ‘Economic Prosperity’ and Bolton Vision Chair Dave Singleton told the audience that work had been going on behind the scenes in seven separate groups that were all linked to achieving that aim:

  • Economic Prosperity
  • Strong and Engaged Communities
  • Skills and Aspirations
  • Active and Confident
  • Social Value
  • Neighbourhood Models
  • Big Up Bolton

Investors involved in the Bolton town centre £1.2bn masterplan also attended the event, which was hosted by Andrew Dickson MBE from Bolton FM.

Dave Singleton said: “We have a very ambitious vision. We want Bolton to be a vibrant place, welcoming people to work, study, visit, invest and to put down their roots.

“There is an open invitation to the private sector to contribute to help make our vision of Bolton 2030 successful.”

A two-year Vision action plan was launched at the event and leads from each of the groups outlined their plans and their aspirations to make Bolton a better place for everyone.

Dave Singleton and Bolton Council Leader Cllr David Greenhalgh were the first to write why they love Bolton on the huge letter B.

Leader of Bolton Council, Cllr David Greenhalgh, added: “The success of Bolton relies on partnership – things happen smarter when we bring things together.

“There is a lot to do, but actually there is much to be proud of and together we can achieve our ambition.”

The ‘I Love Bolton’ campaign was launched in May by Bolton Vision Partnership, asking residents to say what they adore about the place where they live, study, work and visit. Comments can be posted online.
