Covid-19 booster programme continues

8/10/21

The Covid-19 booster programme is now well underway in Bolton while the AstraZeneca vaccine is available again for second doses.

Eligible patients across Bolton are now being called in priority order for their third Covid-19 vaccination. This will be a minimum of six months after their second dose and will be offered to the following people:

  • Those living in care homes for older adults
  • All adults aged 50 years or over
  • Frontline health and social care workers
  • All those aged 16 to 49 years with underlying health conditions that put them at higher risk of severe Covid-19, and adult carers
  • Adult household contacts of immunosuppressed individuals

The AstraZeneca vaccine is now available again in Bolton and is being offered at some clinics from Monday, October 11 (check sites for details).

Dr Helen Wall, senior responsible officer for the vaccination programme in Bolton, said: “All people having the booster should have the Pfizer vaccine as it’s clinically proven to better protect against variants.

"The majority of our sites will be operating an appointment only booster programme at this time aside from Horwich RMI and Hootons Pharmacy, which are accepting walk-ins if eligible.”

Anyone who is severely immunocompromised, including those on medications that suppress the immune system (including chemotherapy), should have a third dose as soon as eight weeks after their 2nd dose. This is to ensure they have adequate response and protection.

Anyone who is immunocompromised and struggling to access their third important dose can contact NHS Bolton CCG for help: on 01204 462125/462157/462030/462028.

Children aged 12 to 15 who have underlying health conditions will be called to attend local vaccine sites and all healthy 12 to 15 year olds will be offered a Covid vaccine in school by the school immunisation teams teams within the next three to four weeks.

‘Mop up’ sessions will be offered to those students who are absent or unable to have their vaccine when the team attends their school. They should not attend walk in clinics unless invited by a GP.

Dr Wall added: “I appreciate this is a difficult decision for parents so more information can be found on the Bolton NHS Foundation Trust website.“
