Evenings, bus and women-only vaccination clinics

30/7/21

The Vaccination Bus is back out on the road next week following a period spent at Essa Academy carrying out second doses.

The week ahead is a busy one for vaccinations, with a number late night walk-in clinics operating until 7pm and 8pm.

There’s also a special drop-in clinic for women only, in particular those who are pregnant, thinking about or planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

Our regular vaccination sites are still inviting people for pre-booked appointments and people can also book online for one of our National Booking Sites at Hootons at the BWFC, Horwich RMI and Breightmet Health Centre (Cohens Chemist).

Dr Helen Wall, senior responsible officer for the vaccination programme in Bolton, said: “We still have a challenge ahead to vaccinate everyone who is eligible with both doses, so I would reiterate my message for people to get their vaccination at one of our walk-in sites or pre-book an appointment if that suits them best.

“Our frontline staff are doing an incredible job of ensuring people get their vaccination at the right time, according to JCVI guidance. I would ask that people refrain from taking out their frustration on our staff and volunteers if the recommended eight-week gap between doses is inconvenient for them. I appreciate people want to plan holidays but we must follow this national directive, especially when this has been shown to be more beneficial in developing immunity.

“We continue to try and make it as easy as possible for people to access their vaccination, and that includes some evening sessions which might appeal to people who are working, studying or have caring responsibilities during the day – especially now schools have broken up for the summer holidays.

“We are at the stage where Covid-19 has not gone away but we have to try and get on with our lives – and that involves getting vaccinated!”

Vaccinations are now available to those who are three months away from their 18th birthday (aged 17 years and 9 months).

Please note that the requirement to wear a face covering and practice social distancing in healthcare settings remains in place. This includes ALL vaccination sites and is essential to protect the most vulnerable and our staff.
