Make a booster pledge this “Jabuary”

14/1/21

Protect yourself and your loved ones from Covid this “Jabuary” by getting your booster!

There are lots of vaccination clinics across Bolton – and you don’t even have to book.

Bolton’s vaccination bus will also be hitting the road again this week and will be at:

  • Morrisons, Chorley Old Road, from 10am-4pm tomorrow (Saturday, January 15)
  • Bolton Interchange, 1pm-6pm, Wednesday, January 19
  • Asda Farnworth, 10am-4pm, Saturday, January 22

All 16 and 17 year olds can now get a booster dose of the Pfizer vaccine if it has been at least 12 weeks since their second dose. They can attend any of the borough’s walk-in clinics or hop on board the vaccination bus.

All walk-in sites are also offering first and second doses for over-16s. People with a severely weakened immune can get a third dose as soon as eight weeks after their second if they have an NHS letter.

Pupils aged 12-15 will start to be offered a second dose of the vaccine in Bolton’s schools from next week. Those who did not have a first dose during the initial schools’ vaccination programme last year will also be given the opportunity to have one.

The school vaccination programme is being overseen by Bolton NHS Foundation Trust’s School Age Immunisation Service. Vaccinations are being carried out by Bolton GP Federation and Kildonan House Group Practice.

Alternatively, parents can continue to take their 12-15 year olds for their first or second jab at Bolton’s walk-in clinics at Market Place Shopping Centre, Horwich RMI, and Hootons at Bolton Wanderers.

People are reminded that over-18s must wait 28 days after a positive test to get any dose of the vaccine. The period is 12 weeks for under-18s.

Dr Helen Wall, senior responsible officer for the vaccination programme in Bolton, said: “Staff and volunteers worked tirelessly over Christmas and New Year to give everyone the opportunity to get their booster. The response from Bolton people has been amazing but we have had a drop in numbers at many of our sites.

“If you haven’t had your booster yet, please get it as soon as possible. Omicron is now the dominant Covid-19 variant and getting boosted gives you the best level of protection.

“It is also never too late to get your first or second jab if you’ve not had them. If you have any concerns at all, please come along and speak to the clinicians at our vaccination sites.

“We need to keep up the momentum in the fight against Covid. Lots of people make a New Year’s Resolution to take part in a health drive in January – from Dry January to Veganuary – but I’m urging to people to consider taking part in ‘Jabuary’!”
