Make a New Year’s vaccination resolution

31/12/21

People are being asked to make a New Year’s resolution to get boosted.

Around 35,000 people in Bolton have had their Covid-19 booster since it was announced on December 13 that all over-18s could get the jab three months after their second dose.

But 56,000 people are still eligible and they are being urged to get jabbed to protect themselves against the Omicron variant.

All of the borough’s walk-in vaccination sites are offering boosters to eligible over-18s.

Shoppers hitting the sales can also attend a pop-up clinic at Middlebrook Retail and Leisure Park, next to River Island. Additionally, the vaccination bus will be at Asda Farnworth from 10am-4pm on Monday, January 3 and at Cambrian Business Park, Derby Street, Bolton from 10am-4pm on Saturday, January 8.

Dr Helen Wall, senior responsible officer for the vaccination programme in Bolton, urged people to get their booster as soon as possible.

She said: “Our vaccination sites have been working incredibly hard to ensure that everyone who is eligible can get boosted. Across Bolton, they have been doing up to 5,000 boosters a day but, unfortunately, the number of people getting jabbed fell in the run-up to Christmas.

“Understandably, the festive period is a busy time for people and getting vaccinated might not be top of their to-do list. But the Covid-19 booster gives you the best level of protection against Omicron so I’m urging people to make a New Year’s resolution to get the jab as soon as possible.

"There are lots of walk-in sites across Bolton with a range of opening times. Extra pop-up clinics may also open so keep an eye on Bolton Clinical Commissioning Group’s social media pages and website for the latest details.

“Although it has been recommended that boosters should be extended to 16 and 17 year olds, sites nationally have not received the go-ahead to offer this. Until we do, people in this age group can’t attend our vaccination sites for their booster.”

The borough’s walk-in clinics are also offering first and second doses for over-16s. People with a weakened immune system can get a third dose as soon as eight weeks after their second jab if they have an NHS letter.

12-15 year olds can get their first and second doses without an appointment at Market Place Shopping Centre, Horwich RMI, and Hootons at Bolton Wanderers Football Club. It must be at least 12 weeks since their first dose and they need to be accompanied by a parent/carer to give consent.

Plans are also being drawn up to offer 12-15 year olds a second dose in school.
