New walk-in vaccination clinic

18/2/22

A new walk-in vaccination clinic is opening next week to make it even easier for Bolton people to get their Covid jabs.

Cohens Chemist, next to Halliwell Surgery, will be open to over-16s from 9am-1pm and 2pm-5.30pm on Tuesdays.

The pharmacy has also run a vaccination site at Breightmet Health Centre since July 2021. More recently, it has offered walk-in vaccinations at Nautica House, Waters Meeting Road – and ran 24-hour clinic there before Christmas.

The Nautica House site is closing after Sunday 20 February; however, Kildonan House Practice is holding a pop-up clinic at nearby Waters Meeting Health Centre from 4pm to 6pm on Wednesday February 23.

Dr Helen Wall, senior responsible officer for Bolton’s Covid-19 vaccination programme, said: “Cohens Chemist has played a vital role in the borough’s vaccination effort since opening at Breightmet Health Centre.

“The 24-hour vaccination clinic at Nautica House was a first for the borough; Cohens staff and volunteers worked through the day and night on December 23 and 24 to make sure that people could get their booster jabs in time for Christmas.

“People have been able to book an appointment to get their Covid jabs at the Cohens branch next to Halliwell surgery for some time now. I’m delighted that they can now attend without an appointment, giving them even more choice when it comes to getting vaccinated.”

There are lots of opportunities for people to get their Covid jabs in the next week.

As well as the regular clinics, the vaccination bus will be at Melting Pot Community Hall in Mancroft Avenue, opposite Al-Jamia Darul Quran Mosque, from 10am-4pm on Tuesday 22 February. People can also get on board in Market Street, Farnworth on Saturday 26 February when it will be outside Home Bargains from 10am to 4pm.

The bus has wheelchair access and is open to over-16s needing any dose of the Covid jab.

The Government has announced that all five to 11-year-olds are to be offered a low dose of the Covid vaccine. Details of how and when this will be carried out are to be finalised; therefore, parents are asked not to contact their GP to ask about this in order to keep phone lines free for urgent health matters.

Children aged five to 11 who could become very poorly if they catch Covid-19 are already being offered the Pfizer vaccine by appointment only.

Over-16s can get any dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at any of Bolton’s walk-in vaccination clinics. Over-12s can get their first or second dose at Market Place Shopping Centre, Bolton Wanderers and Horwich RMI.

People are reminded:

  • The gap between first and second doses is eight weeks for over-18s.
  • For those aged 12 to 17, the gap between first and second doses is 12 weeks (eight weeks if they are at high risk of becoming seriously ill from Covid or live with someone more likely to get infections)
  • Over-16s can get their booster jab 12 weeks after their second dose.
  • Over-18s should wait 28 days after a positive Covid test or the start of symptoms to have any dose of the vaccine, while the wait is 12 weeks for under-18s.
