Opportunities for students, shoppers and women to get vaccinated

10/0/21

Students and staff at The University of Bolton will have the chance to get vaccinated as the vaccination bus rolls onto campus for the start of the new academic year.

The bus will be outside the Chancellor’s Building, off University Way, from Thursday, September 16 to Wednesday, September 22 (excluding the weekend).

As well as staff and students who haven’t had their vaccination yet, the bus will welcome anyone who lives, works or studies in Bolton aged 16 and over.

Visitors to the Middlebrook Retail Park this weekend will also get the chance to hop on the vaccination bus on Saturday, September 11 between 10am and 4pm. The bus will be located near Specsavers and Pizza Hut.

Also taking place this Saturday (September 11) will be a women-only clinic at the Maternity Unit, Royal Bolton Hospital. This clinic is for women who are pregnant, thinking about having a baby or any young woman who may be hesitant and has questions about the vaccine.

Anyone aged 16 and over who hasn’t had their vaccination yet is urged to go along to one of the borough’s walk-in clinics.

Please note these are for first and second doses only. Plans for a possible third dose of the vaccination have not yet been finalised.

Dr Helen Wall, senior responsible officer for the vaccination programme in Bolton, said: “I am pleased to see the vaccination bus having a significant presence at The University of Bolton as we still need people aged 18 and over to come forward for their vaccination. If any students, new and returning, haven’t had their vaccination yet I would encourage them to do it now.

“We also need people to have their second dose, eight weeks after their first, to be fully vaccinated. Unfortunately, we have had a gap in supply of Astra Zeneca over the past week and we are working closely with the supply team to resolve this as soon as possible. I appreciate it can be frustrating if you are eager to get your second dose of Astra Zeneca.

“Please bear with us and the fantastic vaccination teams across the borough who are all working hard to get you vaccinated. The vaccination bus on the Middlebrook Retail Park this Saturday will have a limited supply of AZ, along with some clinics at Horwich RMI next week.”
