Public to shape health centre plans in Horwich

Horwich residents are urged to have their say on plans for a new health and wellbeing hub with a 170-space car park in Victoria Road.

NHS Bolton, NHS Bolton Clinical Commissioning Group and Bolton Council are seeking the views of the Horwich community on the proposal which would see the relocation of two GP practices - Pikes View Medical Centre and Bolton Community Practice - to the hub.

People have until March 28 to complete complete a short online questionnaire.

The hub, next to the new leisure centre, would provide a number of health services including pharmacists, physicians, nurses and mental health practitioners. The plans could also allow for some services, such as MR scanning, to be provided there rather than at hospital.

The proposal for a new health centre was previously outlined as an option for the former leisure centre site in the consultation undertaken to develop the Horwich Town Centre Masterplan.

At the time of the consultation, the proposal for the health centre received positive feedback but the need for additional parking was highlighted. As a result, the plans now include a car park with approximately 170-spaces. This could be used by people visiting the health and leisure centres, and provide long-stay car parking for businesses and visitors to the town centre.

The community engagement will form the basis for the next steps in the process. This will involve further detailed analysis of the costs and implications of the development, alongside planning approval for the scheme and securing NHS funding from the Estates and Technology Transformation Fund (ETTF).

Disposing of the land to the NHS via a long-lease, subject to planning and confirmation of funding, would then need to be approved. A full business case would then need to be approved.

Work would not be expected to start until 2022 at the earliest.
