Take an LFD test twice a week and get back to the things you love

It's been a long time since we were able to go on holiday or to the football, have parties and go to festivals.

But if everyone in Bolton takes two LFD (Lateral Flow Device) tests a week we can get back to normal life.

Working together over the past two months, Bolton NHS Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) Bolton Council and their partners, along with support from the Army, local schools, community groups, volunteers and many more, have pulled together to bring local infection rates down.

These efforts have paid off and Bolton’s Covid-19 infection rates have now reduced significantly.

But to keep everyone safe and to continue to reduce the spread of the virus, everyone needs to take a home LFD test twice a week. It’s simple, free and takes just minutes.

Bolton Council and NHS Bolton CCG are launching a new campaign to show residents just how important regular testing at home is if we want to get back to doing the things we love.

They have teamed up with Bolton Wanderers Football Club to help kick the campaign off.

If we want to go on holiday, go to a football match or host a birthday party, then testing must become a regular part of our lives.

Nicki Lomax, Bolton Council consultant in Public Health, said: The tests are really easy to use, and you can pick up a pack from local pharmacies and pick-up points or order online to arrive the next day.

“Many people with Covid-19 do not have symptoms at all, but they can still pass the virus on to others.

"A negative LFD test gives you the peace of mind that when you are taking a break this summer or going to a wedding, you are not putting family, friends or colleagues at risk.

“It is still important to remember the safety measures of hands, face, space and fresh air, as well as taking up the vaccine as soon as it is offered.”

Councillor Sue Baines, Bolton Council’s executive cabinet member for Wwellbeing, added: “Everyone in Bolton has had to make sacrifices over the past year in order to keep themselves and others safe.

“As we look forward to spending more time with friends and family, it is important to remember to take regular Covid tests at home.

“We know first-hand that regular testing works, so lets all get into the routine of taking two quick tests a week at home and get back to doing the things we enjoy.”

A spokesperson for Bolton Wanderers said: “Bolton Wanderers are right behind the Covid testing drive for our town.

“We want to keep everyone safe and make sure we can all get back to enjoying life to the full including watching live games at the University of Bolton Stadium.

“As in every team we all have our part to play. Do the right thing and get tested.”
