Walk-in Covid jabs for 5-11s

8/4/22

Five to 11 year olds can now get their Covid jabs at two walk-in vaccination sites in Bolton.

Parents and carers can take their children to Market Place Shopping Centre and Horwich RMI club.

Alternatively, they can book an appointment at a selection of sites in Greater Manchester and beyond on the National Booking Service on line or by calling 119.

Covid vaccinations were already available to under-12s who have medical conditions that put them at an increased risk from Covid-19 or who live with someone with a weakened immune system.

Following updated guidance from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), the NHS is now offering the vaccine to all over-fives to help protect against potential future waves of Covid-19 and reduce the risk of children falling seriously ill with the virus.

Dr Helen Wall, senior responsible officer for the Covid-19 vaccination programme in Bolton, said: “Covid cases are still very high in Bolton. Getting vaccinated will help to stop children becoming very poorly if they do catch the virus, as well as protecting their family and loved ones.

“The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has assessed the vaccine as safe for this age group, and staff and volunteers at clinics will make the process as comfortable and as stress-free as possible for children.

“If parents or carers have any concerns about getting their child vaccinated, please come along and have a chat with staff.”

Five to 11s will be offered two doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine at least 12 weeks apart (eight weeks for children who have medical conditions that put them at increased risk from Covid-19 or who live with someone with a weakened immune system.) Each vaccine is a third of the dose of that given to older children and adults.

Children who have recently had Covid should wait 12 weeks before getting vaccinated.

Bolton’s walk-in vaccination sites have a range of opening hours for the week ahead – including over the Easter weekend. All doses of the vaccine are available, including spring boosters for eligible over-75s and over-12s with a weakened immune system.

Muslims are also being reassured that they can continue to get vaccinated during Ramadan and Ibrahim Ismail from Bolton Solidarity Community Association answers some questions they might have in this video.

Dr Wall added: “Ramadan Mubarak to everyone in Bolton who is observing the Islamic holy month.

“If you are, you can still get vaccinated as the British Islamic Medical Association and leading scholars have said that having the Covid vaccine won’t break your Ramadan fast.

“Making sure that you are fully vaccinated, including getting your booster jab, will help to ensure that you can enjoy Eid with family and friends.”

Bolton’s walk-in vaccination clinics up to Monday 18 April, 2022

All sites offer:

  • 1st, 2nd and booster doses
  • 3rd/4th doses if eligible
  • Spring booster if eligible, subject to supply

Under-16s must be accompanied by a parent/carer to give consent.
