Patient Booking Service

The Referral Management and Booking Service (RMBS) provides the services below to patients registered with Bolton GPs.  Download the patient leaflet for further information on this service.

Appointment booking (initial appointment)

You can contact the RMBS to book your initial outpatient appointment if referred by your GP.  When booking, you will need to have the following information to hand:

  • Unique Booking Reference Number (UBRN)
  • Password

The above should have been provided to you by your GP or a member of the GP Practice Team.  All subsequent appointments will be agreed with you by the relevant clinic.  To book your appointment, please call 01204 462 882 and select option 1.

Patient Transport Service (PTS) bookings

In Greater Manchester, the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) provides the Patient Transport Service (PTS) that transports patients to non-emergency hospital appointments.  RMBS make bookings into this service on behalf of the NHS and NWAS.  Eligibility for this service is assessed during your call to RMBS and is based on current mobility needs.  If you do not meet the criteria for accessing the NHS funded transport service, an RMBS advisor will discuss alternatives with you such as Local Link or Ring and Ride.  Friends, family members, or carers are only allowed to travel with the patient if there is a medical need to do so.

Emergency dental appointments

RMBS books patients into emergency dental slots on behalf of NHS England using a network of dental practices based in Bolton.  A limited number of appointments are available from Monday to Friday.  They are released on a daily basis and tend to be taken quickly, so patients are advised to ring at 8.30am when phone lines open in order to book an appointment.    

To be eligible to use the daytime emergency dental service you must live in Bolton or be registered with a Bolton GP.

Please note that the emergency dental service is for those who are experiencing severe pain and does not provide appointments for routine issues and dental check-ups.

To enquiry about the weekday, daytime emergency dental service, call 01204 462 882 and select option 3. 

At evenings and weekends, an emergency dental service is provided at Lever Chambers Centre for Health on Ashburner Street in Bolton town centre.  This service can be contacted on 01204 463 222.  Opening times are as follows:

Monday to Friday:                           5.15pm – 8.30pm

Saturday and Sunday:                    9.00am – 11.30am

RMBS also provides an advisory service to GP practice staff to support them in delivering services to patients.
